Every Candle Begins With a Memory
Sometimes the most meaningful moments begin with something as simple as a familiar fragrance.
That’s exactly how our story began.
Several years ago, our mom began living with dementia. As her memory slowly changed, Stephanie and I made a promise to get her out of the house as often as we could. We called them our little “adventures.”
Mom always loved to window shop, and no matter where our adventures took us, there was one stop she never wanted to miss…
The candles.
She would gently pick one up, close her eyes, take a deep breath, and smile.
Then something wonderful began to happen.
“Oh… this smells just like Stinson Beach.”
“Mmm… this reminds me of the pecan waffles we used to make in my kitchen.”
“This smells like Saturday mornings when you kids would eat cereal and watch cartoons.”
“Oh… this smells just like Apple Hill in the fall. I can almost smell the fresh apple pies.”
One fragrance became one memory.
Then another.
And another.
Watching her smile as those memories came rushing back quickly became one of our favorite parts of every adventure.
What started as simply smelling candles became something much more meaningful. Those familiar fragrances opened the door to conversations we thought might have been forgotten. They brought laughter, smiles, and precious stories we’ll treasure forever.
It was during those adventures that we realized something we’ll never forget:
Fragrance has an incredible way of connecting us to the people, places, and moments that shape our lives.
That realization became the inspiration for La Aroma Candle Co.
Many of the candles you’ll find in our collection today were inspired by those conversations and the memories they brought to life.
